Rebel Without A Crew - Robert Rodriguez
A fun, fascinating, quick-reading paperback about how 23 year-old filmmaker Robert “Desperado” Rodriguez was able to create a movie for just $7,000 and become a major directing force in Hollywood.
His story is also a testament for doing the things you love — at no matter what cost, or in his case at no matter what little cost — and how it can lead to big and unexpected events.
Rodriguez writes in a very direct, friendly, heartfelt manner as he provides an insider’s view to filmmaking and being able to *ahem* focus on the big picture. Highly recommended reading for all would be directors and filmmakers.
I would also recommend getting the El Mariachi DVD which is often bundled with Desperado as well as Rodriguez’s early work Bed Head. Very interesting to listen to the director’s narration for more filmmaking insights.
